SETO KAIBA | "THE LOSER"

The former Duel Monsters champion, adopted son of Gozaburo Kaiba, and ~~current~~ deposed CEO of Kaiba Corporation. After committing atrocities against Yuugi Mutou and his friends, Kaiba was eventually brought to heel by the dark entity existing within the Millennium Puzzle, his soul shattered into pieces and left for him to reconstruct. He was rendered comatose, leaving his empire free for the taking, and taken it was -- brother, company, very nearly his dragons -- until he awoke and struck out to reclaim what was most important. KaibaCorp? Mokuba? All blended together from the outside, but within, his heart sought his brother, his only family.

The final piece.

Kaiba ended up being pulled into the Lab where he was subjected to horrors mean to extract "Light" via suffering. Stubborn, irascible, and noncompliant, he did everything in his power to try and gain an upper hand to the situation, even going so far as to hack into the system as frequently as possible. He wouldn't give up. He wouldn't lie down and take what was done to him.

And then, one day, he left.

Then returned.

A different man -- one who understood the true purpose of this place, or so he says. Light Bringers are here solely to produce Light, and it is now his charge to make sure that not only himself and his peers -- the Enforcers -- contribute to his purpose, but that everyone else is made to do so as well.

The puzzle of his soul remains incomplete. Darkness is finding a home within once more, but so too is the worm of doubt, destabilizing what he is, aided further by the influence of the Scientists that remade him.

⬤ SUNNY YOSHIDA | "DREAMER" ⬤

Roommate. Sunny is partially nonverbal, so Kaiba has had to become more accommodating than he'd usually be in order to properly communicate with him. Sunny willingly allows himself to be used in the creation of Light, which has inadvertently made him the person that Kaiba trusts the most. Unfortunately, given their close quarters, Sunny is also in the unenviable position of often looking after Kaiba after any of their trials, or his "trades" to foster Light.

Despite this, secretly Kaiba is just as protective of Sunny as Sunny seems to be of him, and often skews deals in the teen's favor out of a mixed desire to repay debts and some sense of responsibility. He doesn't quite understand on an emotional level that he's using Sunny as a surrogate for his little brother, despite the fact that he, in fact, is the younger of the two.

They're not so different, really. Both of them are shitty siblings, both of them have hurt people with their actions, and both of them are prone to hallucination and erratic behavior. Perfect roommates indeed...

⬤ CHUUTA KOKONOSE | "THE HOST" ⬤

Fellow Enforcer and apparent subject of Sunny's interests. Chuuta seems to be just as unbalanced as Kaiba at times, moreso in fact, which Kaiba contributes to how he has chosen to interpret their task. Despite them both favoring Sunny as a means of Light production, Kaiba admittedly finds himself disliking Chuuta's methods. Call it possessiveness, even if he doesn't have the same type of connection with Sunny.

He thinks Chuuta is a loose cannon who can hardly be trusted, hypocritical and cruel in a way that he finds difficult to predict. Also Chuuta kicked him in the balls twice and he will forever hold that against him.

Even still, they can have their civil moments, however short-lived. Kaiba's temper and Chuuta's frank way of speaking just don't mesh.

Apparently someone important where she comes from. Kaiba respects the hustle. Before he was drafted into the Enforcer program, he was almost, almost on board with helping the resistance she was trying to put together. Now, however? He considers Jesse a threat for what her words can inspire. As long as she doesn't make too many waves, he won't move against her, and he has no issue disseminating info for her or even others to take advantage of. Personally, he finds that to be amusing.

After all, Enforcer he may be, but he doesn't like the AI or the scientists here.

Dee is most certainly not Kaiba's favorite Enforcer. Call it his distrust for adults, or his disdain for relationships in general, but she already started off on the wrong foot when it came to him. Her threats didn't mean much to him either, and he never took them seriously even before either of them were Enforcers.

He's seen her type--the ones who are loud in order to hide their insecurities--and he doesn't find it charming. That said, he tolerates her more now that they're both Enforcers, and doesn't attempt to set her off nearly as much as he might have before. In the process, he's found himself wondering at her actions, and why she, like him, has a habit of turning her Light-crafting in on herself?

...Not out of any sort of self-reflection. Ew. Gross.

Interfering, opinionated guy. He has a habit of pricking Kaiba's conscience, or attempting to, but he's not very good at it. The last time they spoke, Kaiba wasn't...quite himself, and he hasn't endeavored to make contact past that point, mostly because what the hell is he going to tell the dude? "Sorry I'm an Enforcer your argument is invalid?"

...Seems smart, at least. But not smart enough to go with the flow of this place, so he can't be that smart, can he?

A man who seems to have a very logical head on his shoulders, something Kaiba isn't certain he respects at times, given his penchant for defending the AI in this place. Gesict was one of the people who surgically removed bomb from Kaiba's body, and he did it both efficiently and with an irritating level of sympathy. He's also the one who taught Kaiba a trick to focus--counting backwards by sevens, in order to busy the mind and distract it from trauma.

Gesicht doesn't irritate him as much as any of the others, and he's likely pooled info with him willingly before. Nowadays though...there's not much dissemination of information, is there? Gesicht hasn't spoken to him openly since he revealed he was an Enforcer, and that's probably perfectly fine for both of them--not like Kaiba trusts most adults, after all.

Incredibly over-optimistic woman who insists on killing Kaiba with kindness. He finds her ideals to be overly saccharine and idealistic, but that seems to be how some people get through their time here, so it's not really all that surprising. Just annoying. She's medically trained, which makes her useful, at least.

Up to this point, Kaiba has not realized she might be even marginally interested in playing games, otherwise he would be at her door like a specter, intending to haunt her. Alas.

The last remaining veteran Enforcer, not that Kaiba respects him for it. Far from it, he finds that Rodney's demeanor is more bluster than action, and considers his Spite Boards to be toothless offerings in the cultivation of Light. He's been derided far too many times by the man to have a good working relationship with him, but he generally tolerates him for the sake of their job.

He also promptly took Rodney's "assignment" of proving that he was doing his own job as a big fat "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED", and has continued to do more than his fair share while Rodney traipsed around uselessly as a cat, thanks very fucking much.

Weird Bandicoot-dragon creature. Kaiba might respect the design slightly for the draconic elements, if not for one thing: Tawna did in fact try to eat him at a point. He still bears scars from the encounter--both physical and otherwise. She doesn't have his trust anywhere but behind a screen, and she certainly doesn't have his respect, not with her attitude.

To be fair to Tawna, Kaiba doesn't like being treated like a child, and he perceives her as having done exactly that.
