CHARACTER
NAME: Seto Kaiba
CANON: Yu-Gi-Oh
CANON POINT: DSOD, right after being undimensioned by Diva in the final duel.
BACKGROUND: Wiki link
SUITABILITY: Seto Kaiba is more than just a little bit of an asshole, but he is a very motivated asshole. Ending up here in an unfamiliar place, changed into a creature that frankly, he doesn't entirely hate being (my man simps for dragons ok), but in a situation that has him abandoning his one and only family will very much motivate him into taking action to get back home, however that ends up being. He'd work within the rules of the guild he's assigned, although he'll have loud and obnoxious opinions if he doesn't like something.

I'm interested in seeing how he adjusts to such a life, and how his attitude may change or remain the same when faced with helping inhuman creatures that frankly aren't his concern. I think he'd kind of find a middle ground, wherein he starts to feel...something for the struggle of this small place. And speaking of the struggle...he will put his whole heart and soul into trying to improve the technological situation of Bottlecap Bay. How do people live like this? You can't just rely on a finite source of energy powering different things, this place needs some self-sustaining infrastructure. Luckily for everyone here, Seto Kaiba is a master of ingenuity. He'll fix it, and you'll pay him for the pleasure of convenience, just watch.

...Admittedly despite having a charismatic nature when presenting ideas to the public, he is otherwise an arrogant, egotistical prick and if you get on his bad side, you'll know. So teamwork? E-ehhhh, well...it'll be hard for him, he's gotten a little better but not much, and I want to explore that here! It's a whole different ballgame, actually being forced to work together and just having employees at your general beck and call. No one more than Seto Kaiba deserves to be pushed out of his comfort zone, away from his money and titles, and be forced to remember what it was like to have to Interact When He Doesn't Want To.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?

-- It's highly probable that Kaiba would come across this dangerous Pokemon in need while on a solo mission (because he'd be the kind of guy to say I CAN DO THIS ON MY OWN even if he's not supposed to). Given that he's already committed to completing that mission, he's highly likely to do one of two things. One, if the injured Pokemon can be avoided, he would assess whether it was worth it to him to interfere and offer assistance, then decide the mission is of more import. Upon completing, he would reassess at that point. If the Pokemon cannot be avoided, he would offer "assistance" by way of battle to knock that troublemaker OUT. It's for their own good, and he's the sort to deal with his problems with a show of force. Only difference nowadays is he'd have his Pokemon form to count on, and not his cards.

Naturally with a team, he'd attempt to be the reasonable (read: cold and straightforward) voice in the crowd, but if it ends up too divisive, he would just go with the flow in the interest of--UGH--teamwork. He hates teamwork for teamwork's sake, but the goal must be met, and he doesn't leave jobs undone. Collaboration is a necessary evil.

Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?

-- Context sensitive, as Kaiba is averse to most teamwork outside of his business ventures. The only situation in which he would consider working with someone, enemy or otherwise is if he respects them, even marginally, at which point he will lower himself to participate. If they are someone who is both an "enemy" and does not garner that respect, he will refuse to assist them unless he has no viable alternative. Good examples of this: Atem or Yugi vs Pegasus. He respects both Yugi and his other self, and has collaborated with both before. Pegasus however, a guy who stole his and his brother's soul? Nah. Get the hell outta here with that. Mind that I am playing Kaiba from the manga, so extended anime universe doesn't really apply for him, aka he never interacted with Pegasus again after losing his soul before that guy got murdered.

And yes he considers all of them his enemy.

The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?

-- If it benefits Kaiba, he will likely do the task. However, he will attempt to choose the path of least trouble if he can do so, within the confines of the task. He's a businessman, and he would equate shunning or harming the other guilds to be bad business. Furthermore, he would criticize his guild leader for their close-mindedness and deride them for their poor teamwork. So if he feels that way, why do what he's asked?

Easy: sometimes in the pursuit of one's goals, there will be sacrifices. Mitigating it can only go so far, and success is the ultimate goal.

Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?

-- Although Kaiba seems to be a harsh person, he does in fact have sympathy for the underprivileged, and has a deep understanding of how miserable starvation really is. This, as well as his skill in decision making, would first cause him to plot out all solutions and find an alternative to either situation which he could contribute to. Barring that...he'll err on the side of least death, and be on the side of scouting for food.

Should the opportunity present itself, he would likely insist on going out on that scouting mission, saying that both scouts are not necessary as he's a sharp study and can more than carry two people's weight. Losing is not an acceptable situation, and if Pokemon die, that's losing, isn't it? Kaiba can be made to do any task, really, as long as he equates it to winning and losing. He hates losing, so...

POKEMON: Hakamo-o - After doing some research into Dragon Types (because the most suitable choice was, and always will be a dragon), I came to the conclusion that the Jangmo-o line is in close alignment with Kaiba's personality. I chose Hakamo-o specifically because Jangmo-o is a little too small and unassuming for who Kaiba is as a person, but the whole line fits: they constantly seek self-improvement, whether that's healthy or not (fighting until your scales rip off is not healthy, little guys), and their way is the way of battle. Kaiba has always chosen adversity in order to prove himself, and it's through adversity that he communicates with the world. I'll use a vague paraphrasing of his v3 Duel Disk introductory speech from Dark Side of Dimensions here, but he pretty much lays it all out. He sees fighting as a way for the soul to express itself through the prison of its vessel--the body. So even though he doesn't partake in physical combat, and instead fights through his cards, it's basically the same thing but translated to the lens of Pokemon Battles.

Additionally, even the versatility of Hakamo-o and Kommo-o's scales mirror his ingenuity--the scales can be repurposed into a functional secondary use. Kaiba is an inventor of technology, constantly striving to be on the bleeding edge as it concerns his interests and...insanely enough, bettering the world through means which he finds acceptable, be that creating a new technology to enhance a game, or creating a theme park for orphans and other underprivileged children to enjoy.

If the second link is a little too old, let me know! I mostly play Kaiba in invite-only comm-locked games, but I can screenshot some threads if need be, or find something from the Lab of Nature TDM since those are not locked entries. o7
